In terms of dimensions, the design of the FJ Cruiser reflects those of the original FJ40 - with a very similar wide, muscular stance. It has an overall length of 4,670mm, a width of 1,905mm, a height of 1,830mm and a ground clearance of 224mm[N6]. And thanks to these considerable ground clearance, approach, departure and break over angles, the FJ Cruiser is genuinely equipped for off-road-driving.

Locking Rear Differential

One of the key advantages of FJ Cruiser is its Part Time 4WD capability, which enables you to engage or disengage 4WD at any time. This will provide greater driving efficiency when you're on smoother terrain.

FJ Cruiser also includes a locking rear differential to enhance off-road-driving on more tricky terrain. The differential has an electric actuated locking mechanism, which can be conveniently activated via a dash-mounted switch.

Part Time 4WD

For a better and more efficient on road performance FJ Cruiser has been designed with a part time 4x4 system. So, whenever you're not on tough terrain, the 4WD system can be easily deactivated.

CRAWL Control[B10]

FJ Cruiser is equipped with 5-speed CRAWL Control[B10], which automatically controls the brakes and throttle to maintain the vehicle at a steady speed, so you can give full concentration to steering. The system minimises wheel spin and wheel lock up, giving you excellent steering control, even on slippery, uneven terrain or steep gradients. It's also very handy driving through water.

When it came to designing the FJ Cruiser, our engineers took a "go anywhere, do anything" approach - which is why they gave the vehicle such dramatic approach and departure angles[N6]. The departure angle is 31.0 degrees[N6] - which gives significant clearance at the back of the car when stepping down from or climbing a steep obstacle.
