The VSC system uses electronic sensors in conjunction with both the Anti-Skid Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control (TRC) to help deal with potentially dangerous understeer or oversteer.

VSC manages both the engine’s output and the brake operation on each individual wheel.

It immediately intervenes if it senses the car is skidding due to either oversteer or understeer. This can happen when a driver swerves suddenly to avoid another car for instance, especially when roads are slippery.

Vehicle Stability Control detects when you are not on your intended path using feedback from the steering wheel, and immediately starts controlling power to the brakes, activating them independently to help you steer the car where you want it to go.

Traction Control (TRC)

Traction Control (TRC) works during acceleration in much the same way as Vehicle Stability Control works in cornering.

It uses feedback from sensors in each wheel to work out which provide most grip. It then modifies engine power and brake force to each wheel, so that power goes to the wheels that can use it best.

This helps prevent wheel spin, which is particularly helpful when pulling away, accelerating on slippery surfaces or when the surface is different from one side to the other, e.g. - when one side of the car is on a grass verge or gravel.
